Description:

A rare yet special species rose with lush foliage that tends to sprawl and trail, making it an ideal groundcover; single white flowers emerge from pink buds in summer, pleasingly fragrant; needs well-drained soil but will tolerate some shade

Ornamental Attributes:

Macrantha Dog Rose features showy lightly-scented shell pink flowers with white overtones and yellow eyes at the ends of the stems in early summer, which emerge from distinctive pink flower buds. The flowers are excellent for cutting. It has forest green foliage throughout the season. The glossy oval compound leaves turn an outstanding scarlet in the fall. The fruits are showy orange hips carried in abundance from early to late fall.

Macrantha Dog Rose is a dense multi-stemmed deciduous shrub with a ground-hugging habit of growth. Its average texture blends into the landscape, but can be balanced by one or two finer or coarser trees or shrubs for an effective composition.

Plant Characteristics:

Macrantha Dog Rose will grow to be about 3 feet tall at maturity, with a spread of 5 feet. Its foliage tends to remain dense right to the ground, not requiring facer plants in front. It grows at a fast rate, and under ideal conditions can be expected to live for approximately 20 years.

This rose should only be grown in full sunlight. It does best in average to evenly moist conditions, but will not tolerate standing water. It is not particular as to soil type or pH, and is able to handle environmental salt. It is highly tolerant of urban pollution and will even thrive in inner city environments.
